Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief YS Sharmila launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Chandrababu, accusing him of shielding industrialist Gautam Adani. She ridiculed Chandrababu’s demand for “concrete information” before taking action against Adani, calling it the “biggest joke of the decade.”
Sharmila questioned Chandrababu’s shift in stance, asking how he had previously moved court over power agreements during his tenure in opposition without seeking such information. She reminded him of his allegations that agreements with Adani Power were corrupt, resulting in a financial burden of ₹1 lakh crore on the state. She also referred to Chandrababu’s earlier claims of Adani exploiting the state, contrasting them with his current alliance with Adani.
The Congress leader further alleged that former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy accepted ₹1,700 crore in kickbacks in agreements with Adani Power, as per reports by the FBI. She added that Adani is facing lawsuits in US courts, and the state itself has become a platform for fraud under his influence.
Sharmila criticized Chandrababu for failing to utilize institutions like the ACB to investigate these agreements, calling it evidence of his intent to protect Adani. She accused him of misleading the public under Prime Minister Modi’s directions and demanded immediate action.
“If there’s no hidden agenda with Adani and if the welfare of the people is your priority, cancel the Adani power agreements that are burdening the state with ₹1 lakh crore. Deploy the ACB to investigate the deals and uncover the truth,” Sharmila urged.
