Andhra Pradesh Congress President YS Sharmila has criticized the state government, alleging that it has failed to uphold its promises to Anganwadi workers. Despite assurances of justice upon coming to power, the ruling alliance is now subjecting them to injustice, she said.
Responding to the ongoing protests by Anganwadi workers, Sharmila condemned the government’s approach, stating that suppressing their voices and detaining protesters reflects an authoritarian attitude. She asserted that their demands are legitimate and urged the government to initiate immediate discussions.
Key Demands of Anganwadi Workers:
– A monthly honorarium of ₹26,000
– Implementation of promised gratuity payments
– Recognition of mini Anganwadi centers as main centers
– Clear guidelines for helper promotions
– Immediate recruitment for pending vacancies
– Compensation of ₹20,000 and a government job for the family in case of a worker’s death in service
Sharmila called on the government to address these demands, including 12 other pending issues, and make an announcement in the ongoing Assembly session. She warned that failure to act would result in large-scale protests led by the Congress party.
