Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and a key leader of the Congress party during YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s time, N. Kiran Kumar Reddy came out of his decade long political exile and became active during the recent elections when he contested from Bharatiya Janata party as MP of Rajampeta constituency. Unfortunately, he didn’t emerge victorious despite the massive positive wave for NDA coalition.
Despite his little significance in the party and state politics, Kiran Kumar Reddy appears to be harbouring bigger dreams to clinch a prominent position. Last month, there were reports that Kiran Kumar Reddy might replace Daggubati Purandershwari as the BJP state president. But, there is no such development till now. It would be over ambitious to believe that the BJP high command replaces Purandershwari without any strong reason, especially after the impressive electoral performance of the party in the recent elections.
So, Kiran Kumar Reddy is reportedly aspiring for any significant post at the Centre, if not at the state level. He recently met Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and expressed his desire to get nominated for a Rajyasabha post or serve as a Governor for any state. He has reportedly requested Naidu to convey his request to Central Home Minster Amit Shah during his visit to Delhi.
As Kiran Kumar Reddy has immense political experience and also served the united Andhra Pradesh as Chief Minister after Rajasekhar Reddy’s demise, he has got good credentials and ability to handle any significant position. But, his absence from the political scene for nearly a decade and also the fact that he is relatively a new addition to the BJP might hamper his chances.
Will Chandrababu Naidu recommend his candidature during the ongoing Delhi visit ?
Will the central leadership of BJP considers Kiran Kumar Reddy’s request ?
The outcome of these two questions will decide the fate of Kiran Kumar Reddy’s political future.
