Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, and Telangana legislator K Kavitha, who were detained last month on allegations related to a liquor policy scandal just weeks ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, have been remanded to extended judicial custody for 14 days. Both leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, respectively, are currently held in Delhi’s Tihar Jail and are scheduled to appear in court again on May 7.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Kejriwal has a plea awaiting consideration in the Supreme Court, challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate on money laundering charges since March 21. Although the court addressed the matter on April 15, it did not grant immediate relief to Mr. Kejriwal, pending a response from the federal agency.
