Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2’ is one of the most anticipated sequels because the first part was a trendsetter across the country as director Shankar proved that commercial films can be used to create awareness among the public by blending burning social issues. Moreover, Shankar’s idea to bring a sequel after more than two decades also created strong hype among moviegoers.
For the first time in four years after it was formally launched in 2019, the makers of Indian 2 finally dropped the first glimpse of’ An Intro’ last Friday and it managed to garner only an underwhelming response because it didn’t match the high expectations.
Usually, teasers and trailers of Shankar’s films keep audiences on the edge of their seats because they have a lot of substance, giving a sneak peek into the main plot and characters. Eye-popping visuals, stunning background score and spectacular action episodes are hallmarks of Shankar’s films.
Unfortunately, all these wow factors are completely missing in the first glimpse of Indian 2. Anirudh’s background score is not up to scratch. So, many are disappointed with the absence of AR Rahman’s magic.
Though this is just a brief intro, which appears to be a part teaser and part song that introduces all key characters in the story, Shankar should have come up with a more enticing cut to build strong buzz for the sequel.
As the film has been in the making for more than four years, the hype among moviegoers dwindled due to various reasons. So, a solid teaser could have evoked a positive response and turned the tables for the sequel.
Nevertheless, Shankar’s vision and directional skills cannot be underestimated just by looking at this small glimpse. We have to wait for the trailer before jumping to conclusions. Indian 2 is slated for release next year.
