In a written reply to the question posed by BRS MP KR Suresh Reddy in Rajya Sabha on Friday, Railway Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw once again clarified that there is no necessity to set up the Railway Coach Factory in Kazipet. He reiterated that the demand for railway coaches could be met even in the future with the current setup. The Indian railway requirements could be met even if the demand increases, he stated.
This comes as a huge blow to Telangana which is demanding a Railway Coach Factory for years. As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, Telangana was promised a coach factory in Kazipet and now the centre’s clear stance on this comes as a major setback.
Since the formation of the Telangana, BJP has been voicing out that there is no need for a coach factory. However, BJP sanctioned two railway coach factories, one at Latur in Maharashtra last year and the second one at Kokrajhar in Assam two days ago.
