Fronted by Prabhas and helmed by Om Raut, the ambitious mythological spectacle Adipurush, a retelling of the timeless saga Ramayana, has taken the box office by storm with phenomenal openings in all territories across the globe on Friday. The sensational pre-release buzz generated due to the impressive content has translated into earth-shattering openings in domestic areas. As per trade estimates, Adipurush is the biggest opener of 2023 by beating Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan by a huge margin.

The production house of Adipurush officially released a poster on Saturday claiming that the film punched out whopping 140 Crores on its opening day. Meanwhile, reliable trade analysts reported that Adipurush grossed around 45 Crores( 37.5 Crores net) from its Hindi version in India. This is the third highest for a South Indian hero after KGF 2 ( 53.95 Cr) and Baahubali 2 ( 41 Cr). Also, it is way ahead of Prabhas’ Saaho which minted 24.4 Crores net on its opening day.

In Telugu States, Adipurush notched up close to 53 Crores gross with a theatrical share of 32.2 Crores including GST. The film set a non- Rajamouli record in Naizam with more than 13 Crores share. The collections in Andhra Pradesh are somewhat on the lower side. Nevertheless, this is the sixth biggest opening in Tollywood. The collections in Tamil Nadu and Kerala are very underwhelming and disappointing because the film managed to gross close to 2 Crores in these two areas. In Karnataka, the film grossed close to 7 Crores on its opening day.

In North America, Adipurush minted close to $ 1.45 Million on Friday including Thursday premieres. The collections from remaining overseas locations added another $ 1.5 M taking the tally close to $ 3 Million on the first day.

On the whole, Adipurush is the fourth biggest opening of all time after Baahubali 2, RRR and KGF 2. Also, this is the third film in Prabhas’ career to surpass the 100 Crore mark on its opening day. The film needs to put up a strong weekend show in order to break even in major territories where it was sold for astronomical prices.
