In Hindu mythology, Hiranyakashyap is an Asura king ( Demon King) who boasts a formidable avatar with menacing qualities. A film based on his character has been in talks for a long time. Macho star Rana Daggubati announced it as his most ambitious project long back. He even roped in well-known Tollywood director Gunasekhar to helm this big-ticket film. But, it seems like Rana has changed his plans.
Ahead of the comic-con San Diego event, Rana made an announcement regarding Hiranyakashyap along with other commitments under his Spirit Media production company. Rana revealed that he will be playing the titular role in this ambitious pan-India project which will be made in different languages on a staggering budget. A sketch of the lead character has also been unveiled on this occasion.
What came as a big surprise is that Rana has signed up ace Tollywood filmmaker Trivikram Srinivas to develop the script for Hiranyakashyap. It is officially confirmed that Trivikram has already started working on the story and screenplay for this magnum opus. But, there is no official word about the director.
Though Gunasekhar was initially on board for this project, it seems he has been left out after his recent outing mythological outing Shakuntalam starring Samantha in the lead role came a cropper at the box office.
Gunasekhar has a reputation for handling mythological extravaganzas and historical films. But, his success ratio is very less when he handles such genres. Shakuntalam tanked heavily at the box office and incurred huge losses in all territories. So, it seems like Rana is unsure if Gunasekhar can handle his dream project with perfection. It remains to be seen if Trivikram Srinivas dons the director’s hat as well besides writing the story for this much-anticipated film.
