Vijayawada: Sharmila, the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), announced her upcoming district tours starting from January 23. Addressing the media at the state Congress office in Vijayawada’s Andhra Ratna Bhavan, she revealed plans to visit three districts daily, engaging in meetings with party leaders and workers. The state affairs in-charge, Manikam Tagore, is expected to arrive in Vijayawada on the 24th of this month to initiate the process of accepting applications from potential candidates aspiring to contest as Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs).
Sharmila expressed her commitment to work diligently without betraying the trust placed in her by the Congress high command. Referring to the late Rajasekhar Reddy’s desire for Rahul Gandhi to become the Prime Minister, she affirmed her dedication to that goal. Drawing parallels with Telangana, she mentioned the overthrow of a dictator and highlighted her role in mobilizing anti-incumbency votes through her padayatra in the region. Emphasizing her independence and goals, she clarified that her decision to merge the party was driven by a desire to benefit the people. Sharmila also outlined the Congress’s intention to contest all 175 assembly and parliamentary seats in the state.
