Though there is no normal practice of naming national highways after the political leaders in an attempt to push Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu into an embarrassing situation, the AP PCC President YS Sharmila has appealed to name the Vijayawada Western Bypass National Highway after Congress leader and former MLA Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga in memory of his services to the people of the city.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, she asked Chandrababu to send proposals to the central government for this purpose. She described the services rendered by Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga to the people as indescribable. She also said he was a great person who distributed land to the landless and left a memorable mark on the hearts of the people.
Remembering his services, she said that the Vijayawada Western Bypass National Highway should be named as “Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Bypass National Highway”. This national highway has been constructed from Kaza Toll Gate in Guntur district to Chinna Avutapalli near Gannavaram.
Sharmila said that she is very happy with the completion of this Vijayawada Western National Bypass Road, which is about 47.8 kilometers long. On this occasion, YS Sharmila expressed hope that the traffic problems of the people of Vijayawada will be eased to some extent due to this six-lane national highway.
After Amaravati became the capital of Andhra Pradesh, there was heavy traffic from Guntur to Vijayawada. In addition, since it is also a national highway between Kolkata and Chennai, heavy vehicles also have to pass through the Vijayawada metropolis.
