YCP circles seems to be worried over the election petition filed against its Punganur MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, after the Justice V Srinivas bench admitted the petition in the AP High Court. Peddyreddy has emerged as a key minister in YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s cabinet and also monitored party activities and election strategies all over the Rayalaseema region.
Ramachandra Yadav complained to the Returning Officer, Election Commission, Governor and other officials a week before the polling, seeking to declare the Peddireddy nomination as invalid. He alleged that in his affidavit Peddireddy hid 142 properties, which are in the name of his wife Peddireddy Swarna Latha.
However, his complaint was not taken into consideration and Peddireddy won in the election. Now, on July 4 he filed the election petition in the High Court. As he put before the court documents related to those alleged 142 properties, YCP circles are worried that if the High Court taken them into cognizance and held his election is not valid, it may likely to declared TDP candidate Ramachandra Reddy, who was defeated with a narrow margin, as winner. The Judge adjourned the case for July 30.
In 2014, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, who contested as a YCP candidate from Punganur, won against TDP candidate M. Venkataramanaraj. Then also in a similar manner in the election nomination affidavit, Peddireddy did not signed in some places, did not show details of assets worth crores of rupees, did not attach proper documents and showed his wife Swarna Latha, who is the director of PLR company, as a housewife.
When TDP candidate Raju approached the High Court, in August 2016, High Court Judge Durga Prasad dismissed the case as preliminary feeding was not proper. In October 2016, Venkataraman Raju filed a petition in the Supreme Court through prominent lawyers Siddharth Ludra, Anand, and KS Madan, and the Supreme Court accepted the case for hearing.
The Supreme Court reserved the final judgment on this case 18 times . Later, Venkataraman Raju did not showed interest on the case as he was removed as TDP incharge of the constituency and Anisha Reddy was appointed in his place. As a result, the Apex Court closed the case.
