Story:
Kabir (Hrithik Roshan), a RAW operative well trained, has turned to the dark side and now operates as a contract killer, performing clandestine assassinations with skill. At the same time, an evil global conspiracy known as “Khalil” is being concocted by the nations of China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, and Sri Lanka aimed at the destabilization of India. Kabir is instructed to complete this national duty, which identifies him as a central character in a scheme with implications for national security.
But Kabir’s unshakeable patriotism places him at a moral crossroads. Between his loyalty towards the nation and the task he has been given, he is placed at a juncture which goes against his conscience. This is where Vikram Chalapathi (Jr. NTR) enters the story—a determined and strategic force ready to stop the impending threat and protect the country.
The story goes with terrific action, shocking surprises, and thrilling high-stakes drama. Viewers are left wondering: What links Vikram and Kabir? Who finally thwarts the perilous Khalil conspiracy? And what crucial contribution does Wing Commander Kavya Luthra (Kiara Advani) make in the sequences of events? The answers await on screen.
Review:
War 2 from Yash Raj Films (part of the Spy Universe) is a high-octane action entertainment that keeps you engaged from the beginning to end. The highlights of this action movie are the two heroes. Jr. NTR puts on a show stealing performance all while bringing intensity and energy in the body language and a role to cherish and watch.
Hrithik Roshan, as usual, injects charm, impeccable action timing, and elegant stunts, and gives the franchise fans all that they were expecting. Both of them, through their fight scenes, emotional moments, take over the screen and generate an intriguing chemistry.
The supporting cast of Kiara Advani, Asutosh Rana, and Anil Kapoor is useful to the story, although there is not much to offer from Kiara and Kapoor’s presence does feel overwrought in certain scenes. The chief villain fails to make a mark, and there is one over-the-top second-half chase sequence between Jr. NTR and Hrithik.
On a technical level, War 2 benefits from excellent action choreography, beautiful cinematography, and a Music score by Pritam. Director Ayan Mukerji does a fair job handling the leads and provides reasonable action scenes. However, the screenplay in the second half of War 2 could have been tighter; pacing does slow down in the second half, and a few of the plot twists are predictable and easy to see coming before the finish.
Overall, War 2 is a gorgeous, high-octane visual treat full of star power, Jr. NTR and Hrithik Roshan. Although I felt some of the emotion and dramatic intensity was lacking, the movie is a must-watch for all those who love high-octane spy thrillers and action-packed cinematic releases.
