Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy revealed a sensational piece of news by declaring the city of Visakhapatnam as the future capital of the state. He has invited all the industrial delegates to the city to make investments.
YS Jagan had been to the capital, New Delhi to take part in a curtain raiser event for the upcoming Global Investors’ Summit that is to be held in Visakhapatnam on the 3rd and 4th of March. Addressing the delegates, Jagan welcomed all of them to the city of Vizag as it will be the AP’s capital by then officially. He added that he is shifting his CM office to Visakhapatnam sooner and would run the government from there.
This has come to be a shocker for many including the Amaravathi protestors. Since 2019, YSRCP has stuck to the decentralization of capital and proposed the three-capital rule. With time, the statements changed every now and then but leaving the other two cities of Vijayawada and Kurnool, making only Vizag the full-fledged capital would create unrest. On the flip side, Amaravati farmers approached the High Court and the Justice asked the state government to construct the capital in Amaravati. Miffed AP Government approached the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice issued a stay on the HC’s verdict stating that it should not act as a town planner.
