Story:
A bomb explosion takes place in Hyderabad, and it’s masterminded by the notorious terrorist Qureshi ( Jisshu Sengupta). He receives help from Baachi Raju (Sunil), the brother of a central minister (Suman). Upon discovering their involvement, the minister is killed by Qureshi and Baachi Raju. A young girl happens to witness the murder, and fearing exposure, Qureshi orders his men to eliminate her. Just then, Gopi, also known as Viswam (Gopichand), steps in and saves the girl. From that point on, he takes it upon himself to protect her.
The rest of the story unfolds as Viswam strives to safeguard the girl, revealing the reason for Samira (Kavya Thapar) entry, and whether Viswam succeeds in capturing the terrorist.
Review:
Gopichand delivers a strong performance in a role that fits him perfectly, highlighting his energetic presence and expertise in action. However, the film fails to tap into his full potential, relying too much on formulaic comedy, romance, and action scenes.
Kavya Thapar adds charm and glamour, especially in the musical numbers, but her character offers limited opportunities to display her acting abilities.
Pruthvi and Vennela Kishore add lighthearted moments through their characteristic comedy, while Naresh manages a fine portrayal despite limited screen presence. The ensemble cast, featuring Sunil, Pragathi, VTV Ganesh, Srikanth Iyengar, Rahul Ramakrishna, and others, put in their best effort to stand out in their respective roles.
Jisshu Sengupta gives a decent performance as the antagonist, but the character is not well fleshed out and doesn’t manage to stand out as a memorable villain.
Director Sreenu Vaitla seeks to combine entertainment with emotional weight and action, but the execution doesn’t quite succeed. The storyline is predictable, and some awkward moments detract from the overall enjoyment. Additionally, the director’s reliance on familiar comedic tropes, especially the train segment, feels tired and unoriginal.
The plot is basic, predictable, and old-fashioned, marked by poor writing and an unengaging screenplay. The stretched-out pre-climax and climax ultimately lead to viewer frustration.
Chaitan Bharadwaj’s soundtrack is dynamic and energetic, showcasing a notable mass appeal, with Kavya Thapar’s charisma prominently featured in the songs. Although the background score is decent, it doesn’t quite have the desired impact. On a positive note, the production quality is impressive.
“Viswam” unfortunately falls into the trap of a formulaic storyline and poor writing, despite Gopichand’s valiant attempts to infuse vitality and charisma into his character. Although the “Macho Star” delivers a compelling performance that highlights his commitment and on-screen presence, the film’s overall effectiveness is severely compromised by Sreenu Vaitla’s uninspired narrative and awkward script.
