The Andhra Pradesh government is taking steps towards another important decision. Preparations are being made to clean the village and ward secretariats across the state. To this extent, it seems that a decision has been taken to change the names of the village and ward secretariats.
The state government has reportedly decided to change the name of the secretariats to village welfare offices. The government is thinking of giving the welfare assistants of the welfare department as DDO. It seems that the government’s idea is to make the identification and list of beneficiaries of government schemes in the village welfare office free from any political pressure.
It seems that the village welfare offices are likely to work under a new name (Village Welfare Office) from October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti). It seems that five staff members will be appointed in each village office. However, the VRO communities welcomed the purge of the village/ward secretariat system.
They say that decisions should be made on the performance, responsibilities, local problems and remedial measures of the secretariat employees. They deplored that due to the irrelevant decisions taken in the establishment of the secretariats, the employees were deprived of promotions.
Mainly, the coalition government hopes to streamline the secretariat employees and utilize their services effectively. There are tens of employees in villages across the state, not all of them have a job chart, some are under a lot of work pressure, and others are getting ready to purge the system as they have no real work.
It is expected that village and ward secretariats will be expanded so that local problems can be identified and plans can be made and implemented accordingly. Some services related to village and ward secretariats are to be provided in connection with other secretariats.
There is also an idea to form a coordination committee between the respective departments under the leadership of the District Collectors. It is expected that the coalition government will make necessary changes and additions in relation to the village and ward secretariats.
