USA Box Office: It’s a ‘Kushi’ weekend for buyers

Telugu film Kushi has had a terrific run at the USA Box Office in the first weekend. The romantic entertainer, starring Vijay Devarakonda and Samantha in the lead roles, posted impressive numbers in the first four days and is set to emerge as a blockbuster in this territory.

After taking a phenomenal opening with $ 473K, the Shiva Nirvana directional continued its strong run throughout the weekend. On Friday and Saturday, the film notched up $ 360K and $ 350K and breached the million-dollar mark in just three days. On Sunday, Kushi remained very steady with another $ 250K gross.

Despite having some narrative shortcomings, the film managed to gain traction from US audiences because of the strong pre-release buzz and chartbuster songs. The emotional performances by the lead pair struck a chord with the moviegoers.

With a $ 1.4 Million haul in the first weekend, Kushi is set to enter the profit zone and bring cheer to its buyers. This is the first territory of break-even for Kushi.

Other Telugu films like Gandeevadhari Arjuna and Bedurulanka ended their run with less than $ 100K gross and turned out to be flops.

Rajinikanth’s blockbuster Jailer is heading towards $ 6 Million gross and Bollywood film Rocky Aur Rani kii Prem Kahani is enroute emerging as one of the biggest hits in USA with $ 10 million gross.
