It has issued orders to stop all government activities in the lands immediately. The Supreme Court examined the interim report sent by the High Court Registrar. The news articles were mentioned by the amicus curiae before Justice Gavai. The court has made the Chief Secretary of the government a respondent. The High Court Registrar said that the situation can be understood if you look at the photos of the report.
Justice Gavai asked why hundreds of machines were needed to level the disputed land overnight? The court said that this is a very serious matter. The bench was of the opinion that felling trees in 100 acres in 3 days is not a small matter. Did you take permission for the felling of trees?, the court asked.
The court ordered that not a single tree should be cut until further orders are issued. The court ordered the Chief Secretary to file an affidavit and directed that no action be taken until further orders are issued.
The court also ordered that the officials of the committee formed by the government on March 15 should also respond. The Supreme Court opined that the CS should be held personally responsible if violations occur.
