Undeclared power cuts hampering IT companies In Hyderabad

Wednesday, March 26, 2025

The undeclared power cuts in Hyderabad, mostly after formation of Congress government in the state, particularly in Cyber City hampering works of IT companies.  People are suffering because they do not know when the power will come in several circles within Greater Hyderabad.

The situation is particularly bad in Cyber City, which is known as the IT corridor. If the power cuts are officially announced, alternative arrangements can be made. However, IT employees say that power was cut several times in February itself in the name of maintenance and that power is being cut again in March without any announcement.

They complain that power is being cut four to five times a day in Gachibowli and Ibrahimbagh areas, which is making the situation of employees working from home even worse. They complain that no one cares about this issue even after calling the helpline or calling the 1912 number, and that if they post their complaint on ‘Ex’, they only get personal details and a system-generated message, but there is no proper response.

80% of the IT companies in Hyderabad are located within the Cyber City circle. There are 6 lakh electricity connections in Cyber City. While Greater Hyderabad consumes 75-80 million units of electricity daily, more than half of the demand is within the Cyber City, Medchal and Habsiguda circles. This is 35% more than the previous year.

Cyber City recorded the highest demand of 714 MW last year. Officials estimate that it is likely to increase to 850-900 MW in April and May this year. In this context, they say that arrangements are being made to provide adequate electricity. However, the situation is different at the field level.

Recently, 232 new distribution transformers, 25 power transformers, 11 KV feeders (128) and 33 KV feeders (4) were made available in Cyber City Circle. Despite the division of feeders and doubling of the PTR capacity, it seems that they are not able to show full results.
