The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed a new Waqf Board. It is known that the government has abolished the existing board appointed by the previous YCP government. It seems that the old board was abolished because it was appointed against the rules.
It may be recalled that 13 writ petitions have been filed in the High Court stating that the Waqf Board appointed by the previous government is against the rules. The court has also stayed the election of the State Wakf Board. After examining all this, Chandrababu Naidu government has withdrawn the GO 47 issued by the previous government to ensure the smooth functioning of the board and the protection of Waqf properties.
To this end, orders have been issued to appoint the latest Waqf Board. In the section of elected members, MLC Ruhullah (YSRCP) and Sheikh Khaja (Muthavalli) who were in the previous board have been continued in the new board also. Abdul Aziz, Mohammad Nazir (TDP MLA), Haji Mukarram Hussain (Shia cleric), Mohammad Ismail Baig (Sunni cleric), Syed Dawood Basha Bakhvi and Sheikh Akram have been appointed as nominated members of the board.
GO 77 has been issued to this extent. It is stated in it that the appointment of 8 members of the Andhra Pradesh Wakf Board has been taken up as per the Wakf Act-1995 Amendment Act-2013 (Section 27). All these members will soon elect the chairman. It is interesting that the YSRCP MLC will continue in the Wakf Board.
Meanwhile, it is known that AP Endowment Tribunal Chairman KVL Harinath has resigned. The government has issued orders accepting this resignation. He was first appointed as the Chairman of the AP Endowment Tribunal in November 2019 by the previous government. After that, an order was issued on April 1 this year extending his tenure for another three years. He resigned from his post on October 24. Recently, Endowment Secretary S. Satyanarayana issued an order accepting this resignation.
