Hyderabad: In response to a proposal from the Telangana state government, the Central government has greenlit the alteration of vehicle registration numbers in the state from ‘TS’ to ‘TG’. A gazette notification released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways late on Tuesday night confirmed the approval, asserting that the change will be implemented immediately.
The notification clarifies that henceforth, vehicle registration numbers in Telangana will commence with ‘TG’, replacing the previous ‘TS’ prefix. However, this modification will exclusively apply to newly registered vehicles, while existing number plates will maintain the ‘TS’ prefix. Awaiting further directives from the government, senior officials from the Road Transport Authority (RTA) have stated their readiness to execute the revised regulation. Emphasizing the scope of the new rule, a senior RTA official highlighted that it will impact solely the registration of new vehicles within the state.
