Telangana is preparing for much-awaited Panchayat polls, and with the Revanth Reddy-led government making good progress to complete it by March 2025. According to the sources, official election notification may be released during the second week of February.
Local body polls, overdue for more than a year, will be a strong step in developing rural governance as well as grassroots aspirations.
Representation Strengthening through BC Reservations
The state government aims at encouraging inclusiveness through amendment in Panchayat Raj and Municipal Acts so as to increase BC reservations in the elections for local bodies. Such amendments will better facilitate the representative’s fair presence and prove that the government stands for social justice.
Gram Panchayat Election Phased Plan
The elections will cover 12,769 Gram Panchayats, starting with the Sarpanch polls in the first phase. The government has planned a phased approach, with subsequent elections for Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs), Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs), and Municipal bodies to follow.
Welfare Initiatives to Win Rural Support
Ahead of elections, the state government is also working on several key welfare schemes that target voters in rural regions. Under Rythu Bharosa, a scheme for the landowning farmers, a sum of ₹12,000 per acre shall be given while tenant farmers under the Indiramma Athmeeya Bharosa program are to be given the same amount.
The disbursement of the fund for both schemes will start on January 26, and the entire process is expected to be completed by mid-February, ensuring that the benefits reach the farming community before the polls.
Congress Prepares for Grassroots Campaign
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directed the Congress MLAs and party leaders to increase their activities to gear up the campaigning ahead of the elections. Congress cadres across the state are now actively reaching out to villages to build momentum to ensure strong results.
The Revanth Reddy government is strategically positioning itself to strengthen its influence in rural Telangana by aligning the disbursement of welfare benefits with the election timeline, making this a key electoral battle for grassroots governance.
