The Supreme Court issued a key verdict on MLC appointments on Wednesday. It has stayed the appointments of Kodanda Ram and Aamir Ali Khan as MLCs. It is known that Kodanda Ram and Aamir Ali Khan were appointed under the Governor’s quota. The Revanth Reddy government nominated both of them as MLCs under the Governor’s quota.
However, challenging this, the then BRS MLC candidates Dasoju Shravan and Satyanarayana approached the Supreme Court. To this extent, the Supreme Court, which heard the respective petitions, invalidated the oath-taking of Kodanda Ram and Ali Khan as MLCs. It is known that the Supreme Court had previously stayed the election of two MLCs.
It issued interim orders that the selection should be made in accordance with subsequent orders. The bench modified the interim orders given earlier. The Supreme Court said that it is wrong to take oath after the interim orders. The bench of Justice Vikramanath and Justice Sandeep Mehta clarified that orders will be issued.
Before the Telangana Assembly elections, the KCR government nominated Dasoju Shravan and Satyanarayana as MLCs. The then Governor rejected the candidatures of both of them. After the Governor rejected their candidatures, both Shravan and Satyanarayana approached the Supreme Court.
After the elections, the Revanth Reddy government proposed the names of Professor Kodanda Ram and Ali Khan on January 13, 2024. The Governor approved the candidatures of both of them. The High Court was approached against the Governor’s decision. The High Court cancelled the appointments of Kodanda Ram and Ali Khan.
After that, the Revanth government once again recommended the same names to the Governor. With the Governor’s approval, the two were appointed as MLCs. On August 4, Dasoju Shravan and Satyanarayana approached the Supreme Court against the Governor’s decision. The Governor’s Office also filed a petition in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court, which conducted the hearing, rejected the oath-taking of Kodanda Ram and Ali Khan.
Meanwhile, MLC Aamir Ali Khan expressed his impatience on this issue, saying that he did not expect the Supreme Court to give such a verdict. He said that he would talk about everything after reading the court order. He expressed his concern that he was a journalist and had no political background until recently.
