Supreme Court Questions Trial Delays in YS Jagan’s Case

Monday, December 23, 2024

New Delhi: YSRCP rebel MP Raghurama Krishna Raju has lodged separate petitions in the Supreme Court, seeking the cancellation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan’s bail in the disproportionate assets case and the transfer of trial proceedings from Telugu states.

Today, these petitions underwent deliberation in the Supreme Court, where the bench expressed concern over the delays in the trial. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI, disclaimed responsibility for the trial’s postponements, asserting their lack of influence over adjournments in the lower court. Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta questioned who bears responsibility for the delays, probing whether the influence lies beyond the investigating agency.

Meanwhile, Raghurama Krishna Raju’s actions are perceived as opposition to the activities of the YSRCP party. Jagan’s legal representatives informed the bench that Raju’s petitions were politically motivated. However, the bench clarified its focus solely on the legal aspects of the case, emphasizing a non-political evaluation.
