Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal deplored that dictatorship in the country has crossed all limits and her husband Aravind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister, was being treated as a “most wanted terrorist”
She wondered over the way in which the Delhi High Court on Friday stayed the local court’s order granting bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy scam case. The development has come after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) approached the High Court challenging the local court’s judgement.
The High Court has put a stay on any proceedings related to Kejriwal’s release till the time it’s hearing the case. On Thursday evening, the Rouse Avenue Court granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the alleged liquor policy scam case.
Sunita Kejriwal claimed that the ED challenged her husband’s bail order even before it was uploaded on the trial court’s website.
Speaking in south Delhi’s Bhogal where Delhi water minister Atishi began an indefinite hunger strike to get more water from Haryana, she said “Even before the bail order was uploaded, the ED went to the high court to get it stayed. Dictatorship has crossed all limits in the country. The high court order is yet to come. We hope that the court will do justice.”
ED mentioned its plea challenging the trial court order for an urgent hearing before a bench of Justices Sudhir Kumar Jain and Ravinder Dudeja, which said the case file will come to it in 10-15 minutes and after that, it would hear the matter.
The High Court said till then the trial court order shall not be acted upon. Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, representing Kejriwal, argued that the stay on the trial court’s order is essentially equivalent to cancelling the bail.
Singhvi criticised the ED, suggesting that it has found a new tactic to circumvent legal procedures. He emphasised that the ED is attempting to bypass the law, stressing that there is a clear distinction between granting bail and canceling it.
