Sugavasi Balasubramaniam, who lost the 2024 assembly elections from Rajampet, as the political heir of TDP senior leader Palakondrayudu in Kadapa district and recently resigned from the TDP, is reportedly preparing to join the YSRCP. It is said that he is willing to join the party on the promise of allocating the Rajampet Lok Sabha seat represented by Mithun Reddy, who is currently the leader of the YSRCP Lok Sabha party.
It is reported that he is likely to meet former Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy next week. After the election results, Balasubramaniam participated in TDP programs for a few days, but has been staying away from the party since then. He recently wrote a letter to Chandrababu Naidu resigning from the party, feeling that the developments taking place in the constituency are not being taken into account even after complaints.
Many felt that he had resigned from the TDP only after getting offers from senior YSRCP leaders. The YSRCP believes that it will benefit from taking Sugavasi, who can influence the Balija community, into the party. Mithun Reddy, who is currently the Rajampet MP, says that an agreement has been reached to contest from Pileru in the next elections.
Meanwhile, Jana Sena leaders have recently entered the fray to include Sugavasi in their party. Some leaders from the Bilaja community are conducting an embassy. However, his supporters say that there is no possibility of him joining any party in the alliance after resigning from the TDP.
The Sugavasi family is politically famous in Kadapa district. In Rayachoti, the TDP has been known as a fortress of the family for four decades. The fact that this family, which has been the backbone of the TDP since its inception, is now preparing to join the YSRCP is creating a political stir.
Chandrababu Naidu, YS Rajasekhar Reddy and Sugavasi Palakondrayudu are contemporary politicians in this area. He had won as an MLA from Rayachoti from the Janata Party in the 1978 elections. In 1983, he contested again from Rayachoti as an independent candidate and won. Later, he joined the TDP and contested as an MP from Rajampet in the 1984 elections and won. He became an MLA from Rayachoti in the 1999 and 2004 elections respectively.
