Sonu Nigam Faces Backlash Over Controversial Remarks At Bengaluru Concert

Monday, December 8, 2025

Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam is at the center of a controversy following an incident during his recent concert in Bengaluru. While performing on stage, Nigam was reportedly approached by a fan who demanded him to sing in Kannada. In response, Nigam paused his performance and addressed the crowd, expressing his respect for the language but also stating that the fan’s threatening behavior was unacceptable.

Nigam further sparked debate by referencing the Pahalgam terror attack in his comments. “What happened in Pahalgam is the reason for this. This is exactly why that attack occurred. Before making demands, you should see who is standing in front of you,” he said. His remarks, though directed at the fan, were interpreted by many as inciting language-based discord. This has led to calls from Kannada-speaking communities for legal action against the singer. Reports indicate that complaints have been filed with local police regarding his comments.

Despite the controversy, Nigam also expressed his deep appreciation for the Kannada language and its people. “I have sung in all languages, but some of my best songs have been in Kannada. The love I receive from the people of Bengaluru is overwhelming, and I consider them like family,” Nigam added. However, his comments have continued to draw criticism, with some accusing him of promoting language discrimination.
