Vijayawada: Tensions flared as Vijayawada police halted and redirected the convoy of the new APCC chief, YS Sharmila, leading to a sit-in protest by Congress cadre on Sunday. The party claimed that the convoy, en route to the Congress office from the Vijayawada airport, was stopped at Enikepadu by the police. Protest ensued as the police diverted the route, with party workers sitting in the road and expressing dissatisfaction towards Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
After protests and discussions with Sharmila, local media reports indicated that the police eventually allowed the convoy to proceed. Sharmila questioned the chief minister’s actions, stating that the government seems afraid of the Congress party, emphasizing that they had obtained all necessary permissions and expressing concerns about a dictatorial rule in Andhra Pradesh.
