At a time when the coalition government has been in place for a year, and former Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy is preparing to tour the districts alleging that it has failed miserably in implementing election promises, uncertainty mounted over the senior leader of North Andhra, Dharmana Prasada Rao.
Is Dharmana distancing himself from the YSRCP? Or will he say goodbye to politics completely? It is not clear. Although it is said that Dharmana’s son will contest in the next elections, which party is becoming a matter of suspense. After the YSRCP lost the 2024 elections, many key leaders left the party, and after that, migration from the YSRCP stopped.
Recently, senior TDP leader Sugavasi Balasubrahmanyam from Rayalaseema has taken up the YSRCP mantle. Jagan says that there is strong opposition among the people against the coalition government within a year. He has launched a program targeting Chandrababu Naidu, alleging that he had not fulfilled his promises.
Meanwhile, Former minister and senior leader from Srikakulam Dharmana Prasada Rao, who served as a minister in 1989 and from 2004-2014, got a chance in the Jagan cabinet in 2019 as well, is now distancing from the party. Dharmana’s brother Krishnadas, however, remains active in the party. Both Dharmana brothers served in the Jagan cabinet.
However, after the party’s defeat, Dharmana completely distanced himself from YSRCP affairs. There was a large-scale campaign that Dharmana would join Jana Sena. However, he has not officially clarified his stand so far.
He met Jaganmohan Reddy before the 2024 elections, stating that he wanted to quit politics and sought a party seat for his son. But, Jagan convinced him to contest in the 2024 elections.
He has been staying away from politics since losing the elections. Dharmana Prasada Rao recently skipped the YSRCP district meeting held in Srikakulam. He has not been attending party functions for a year. It seems that Dharmana wants to quit for the sake of her son’s political future.
