Story:

Saranganapani (Priyadarshi) has been astrologically obsessed since he was a kid, and he can’t begin the day without reading his horoscope. He is a salesman at a showroom, where he develops a crush on Mythili (Roopa Koduvayur), the manager. Before he even gets the chance to say something, Mythili shocks him by telling him she loves him. The two soon get engaged, and marriage looks like the next step in life.

However, Saranganapani’s life changes dramatically as he finds out from an astrologer (Srinivasa Avasarala) that his fate is a black one. The astrologer reads his palms and tells him that his fate leads to murder. Saranganapani is left shocked and horrified realising that no matter what he does, he can do nothing about the prediction — he is fated to kill someone.

Confronted with such a terrifying prophecy, Saranganapani, with his friend Chandu’s (Vennela Kishore) assistance, plans to alter his fate. What decision will Saranganapani take? Will he be able to rewrite his destiny, or will fate catch up with him? The film traces their process as they attempt to outwit destiny.

Review:

Priyadarshi to play the lead role, and the actor is absolutely brilliant in bringing the character alive. His innate comedic sense comes through, and he performs one of his best.

Roopa Kodavayur, too, does a fantastic job in her character, blending perfectly into the heroine slot that Indraganti specialises in. Vennela Kishore, who gets quite an amount of screen space alongside Priyadarshi, brings his own trademark charm to the movie, and his act is one of the standouts.

Srinivasa Avasarala, in his negative role-playing character, too gives a memorable performance, and Tanikella Bharani injects his personal touch, though in limited time on screen. Naresh, Vaddamani Srinivas, Harsha Chemudu, and the rest of them all contribute meaningfully to the humor of the film, which makes it a fun ride for the audience. Raja Chembolu, however, does a more typical role.

The name Sarangapani Jatakam already signals a story that is all about astrology, and it does not take long for the movie to confirm that Sarangapani’s horoscope obsession will form the core of the movie. The film establishes the premise that Sarangapani’s life is governed by his astrology, most notably a prediction that he will kill. But Indraganti adds a twist to the story, providing something else entirely. Sarangapani’s belief in astrology leads him into a series of chaotic and humorous situations, where he desperately tries to change his fate, providing the film with its comedic moments. His efforts to avoid the predicted murder in his horoscope result in several hilarious escapades.

Unfortunately, as the story progresses into the second half, the humor begins to wane. Sarangapani’s increasingly absurd behavior risks alienating the audience, and the once-funny antics lose their impact. While there are still some comedic moments, the latter half of the film becomes more silly and illogical, diminishing the overall fun. The jokes arrive thick and fast, but the speed becomes somewhat overwhelming, and the tale itself begins to feel contrived and shallow. By the conclusion, the tale then turns out to be predictable and the farce of errors does not quite deliver the laughs required.

Albeit these shortfalls, the movie is fun to watch at least to a degree, particularly for those with an appreciation of light-hearted family comedy. Witty dialogue continues to be its main strength, though the storyline falters in keeping audiences interested as it veers towards implausible dimensions. Vivek Sagar’s music is a nice background, with the song “Saaranga.” being a catchy and peppy one, although the music is not the highlight of the film. The background score is appropriate for the mood, and PG Vinda’s cinematography makes the film look sleek. The production values are high, which makes the film look professional overall.

In conclusion, while Sarangapani Jatakam may not offer a groundbreaking narrative, it is still an enjoyable, family-friendly comedy with plenty of witty moments. Its strength lies in the humor and the performances, particularly the dialogue delivery, though the story could have benefited from more substance. Despite the logical inconsistencies and predictable twists, it’s a fun film to watch if you’re in the mood for light-hearted entertainment.
