After a challenging August for Tollywood, the trade is making a big comeback in September as some top films have been scheduled for release. The second half of September has a lot in store in terms of battles at the box office, and particularly on September 12, when two major films are up against each other. Mirai, which is a pan-India release, will be having its big release, and Kishkindhapuri too has been scheduled for the same day. To make things even more exciting, Kant is due out the same weekend, although there have been rumors about a potential postponement. The actual battle royale, though, is anticipated between Teja Sajja’s Mirai and Bellamkonda Sreenivas’s Kishkindhapuri.
First, Kishkindhapuri had planned September 12 as its release date. But after Mirai too booked the same date, the producers of Kishkindhapuri momentarily thought about a day’s advance shift in their release. But in a last-minute twist, they chose to adhere to the initial plan, which was confirmed at the trailer launch event of the film.
At the launch, producer Sahu Garapati was questioned regarding the likely conflict with Mirai and why they had decided to hold their release on the same day. In an outburst, Sahu said that the right question to be asked was to those who had decided to release their film on the same date. When questioned whether the Kishkindhapuri crew was disturbed by the confrontation, Sahu assuredly replied that the real test would lie on September 12. His statement was a testimonial to his firm faith in the merit of Kishkindhapuri, and he is sure that the movie will surpass its rivals at the box office, leaving the others lagging behind.
The situation is bound to become even more interesting when Mirai’s promotional team, led by producer Vishwaprasad, faces the media. It will be fascinating to see how he handles the ongoing clash and the questions surrounding the box office competition.
