Beginning from the period of the elections it has become customary to burn important documents in key departments, where large scale irregularities were allegedly committed by the previous government, fearing present government may probe in-depth. In continuation of this exercise, several files related to the Polavaram project are being burnt.
It is suspected that YCP leaders resorted to this mischief fearing that the irregularities committed by them in the last five years will come out. It is reported that the documents related to Polavaram left main canal land acquisition were burnt in the Polavaram Project Authority Office in Dhavaleshwaram.
There is a suspicion that the officials in the office burned the files so that to bury the beneficiaries’ compensation irregularities. The police reached the spot and examined the burnt files. It is suspected that the files were burnt on Friday night.
V. Murali, who previously worked as a special collector, paid Rs. 19 crores to the beneficiaries in Devipatnam and other areas. After that, there were also allegations and cases where 22 fake farmers were created and Rs.6 crores were collected. The case of Rs.6 crore is now going on in the court. In this background, there are doubts whether the fire was set according to some plan.
In-charge sub-collector Siva Jyoti, DSP Bhavya Kishore and special deputy collector examined the burnt documents. The half-burnt files have been seized and the police are investigating. The officials have come to a preliminary conclusion regarding the compensation given to the displaced people of Polavaram project.
It seems that the office staff burnt the files on Friday night without taking the permission of the Special Deputy Collector. A team of officials is investigating the issues that led to burning of files. Special Deputy Collector Vedavalli said that they are investigating the burning of documents. Stating that he was appointed as incharge after the Deputy Collector went on leave, he said that the sweeper burnt the files without his knowledge.
Irrigation Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu alleged that YCP leaders were behind this burning of file fearing that their corruption and irregularities would be exposed. He warned that they would conduct a thorough probe and however big may be will not be tolerated.
RDO Sivajyoti said that the documents related to Polavaram left canal were not burnt, only xerox papers and those without signatures were burnt and why they were burnt without permission they will be investigated.
