Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed regret that IAS and IPS officers have stopped coming out of their AC rooms. Releasing the book ‘Life of a Karmayogi’ written by former IAS officer Gopalakrishna Naidu, he made it clear that public problems can be understood only when officers go to the people and that sitting in offices is of no use.
“In the past, IAS officers were always among the people. That is why people remember officers more than politicians. Especially when collectors visit the field level, solutions to problems are found. But some collectors are not leaving their AC rooms. Experience at the district level is key for collectors and SPs,” he said.
In the past, Revanth Reddy said that when politicians mentioned something, officials would tell them about the shortcomings and the losses that would be incurred. They would explain the future problems that would arise if they went against the law, alerting the leaders and reminding them of the consequences, he added.
But, he deplored these days, they say less. “I don’t know the reason for this. But, I think politicians are implementing every decision they take, whether to please the political executive or to please themselves,” Revanth added.
He said that the education and experience of the Chief Minister or the ministers may be different, and that those who have not studied anything can also be given the education department, and that the political executive job has nothing to do with their education.
That is why, he said that officials are needed as per the Secretariat Business Rules to create awareness. He said that they should explain the mistakes to the political executives in every file they received. The CM said that committed officers will definitely be recognized.
Revanth Reddy suggested to Chief Secretary Shanthi Kumari that collectors and SPs should be given the opportunity to meet former officers through conferences frequently. He praised the memories of Gopalakrishna Naidu and said that it was a big task to put his six decades of experience in the form of a book.
“Gopalakrishna, who has experience from the time of the first Prime Minister Nehru to today’s Prime Minister Modi, is a direct witness to the changes in the country from a closed economy to an open economy. He is also able to visualize the future,” he added.
