The Revanth Reddy government is planning to expand Greater Hyderabad to compete with world-class cities.As part of this, the government is considering proposals prepared to merge seven corporations and 20 municipalities into GHMC. It is known that there are chances that the Greater elections will be postponed for this purpose.
This process is expected to be completed within a year. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is preparing plans to give a new look to Greater Hyderabad. As part of this, it is said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area has been decided to be expanded up to ORR.
The government initially planned to form a single mega corporation through merger to lead the city towards integrated development up to ORR. But for ease of administration, there is also a proposal to divide it into two or three parts. An expert committee is expected to be formed to consider all these and find a suitable solution.
Excluding GHMC to be merged into Greater, there are 20 municipalities and 7 corporations within ORR. There is a difference between these in terms of development compared to Greater Corporation. In this process, the government intends to merge the respective municipalities and corporations into GHMC to develop the city uniformly up to ORR.
Then GHMC will expand to 2,000 square kilometers. The government is taking steps towards merging the respective municipalities and corporations into GHMC to develop the city uniformly up to ORR. To implement this, a resolution should be passed in the relevant corporations and municipalities first. But, Congress does not have a majority in them.
At the same time, the term of the GHMC governing body is till February next year. On the other hand, the term of these 20 municipalities and 7 corporations ends by the end of this month. Elections will have to be held within six months for the local bodies whose term has expired. A special committee will be formed to study the feasibility of merging these into GHMC without holding elections and then separating them for administrative convenience.
