Ram Gopal Varma, who made controversial films during the YSRCP regime and returned the money, is now being haunted by cases. Recently, former IPS officer Anjana Sinha has filed a case against him. Anjana Sinha has alleged in her complaint that her professional identity was used for commercial purposes without her permission in the web series `Dahanam’.
Ram Gopal Varma acted as the producer of the web series `Dahanam’. The Raidurgam police filed a case against him based on her complaint. The film was released on April 14, 2022. It was made by director Agastya Manju under the leadership of RGV Productions, based on the struggle between federalists and Maoists.
It shows how a communist leader was murdered and how his son avenged his father’s death. RGV revealed that the film was based on real events narrated by a retired IPS officer. The Dahanam web series was initially released on MX Player. But it was later removed.
The series, which has a total of seven episodes, revolves around the revenge story after the murder of a communist worker. Anjana Sinha, a 1990 batch IPS officer, served in the Telugu states up to the rank of DGP and retired recently. She served as SP and DIG in Rayalaseema. She also served as the Director of the National Industrial Security Academy.
Anjana Sinha became furious for using her professional identity in the Dahanam web series. “I never met the producer and director of the Dahanam web series. I never spoke to them. I was not even given any permission. They have misused this series for commercial purposes by showing me as narrated this incident, with my name and professional identity,” she said in her complaint. She stated that the entire series contains violent scenes and sexual content.
Anjani Sinha stated in the complaint that these have caused serious damage to her reputation, honor and professional standing, violated her personal rights and caused her mental distress. Based on this complaint, the Raidurgam police registered a case against the producer and director on September 10 under IPC sections 509, 468, 469, 500, 120(b). It will be interesting to see what action the police will take. There are already several cases against him in AP.
