International Red Sandalwood smuggler and also YCP leader Kollam Gangi Reddy is said to be detained by Annamayya district police in Rayalaseema.
Initially he was taken into custody along with his followers by the Railway Kodur police with regard to a clash related to Lakshmi Theater land dispute in Railway Kodur. But after interrogating him and his followers the police set him free.
Gangi Reddy, who is known as an international red sandalwood smuggler was arrested by the police during the previous TDP regime and he was sent to jail. After YCP came to power, the government released him. Soon after coming out of jail, he joined YCP.
Since then, Gangi Reddy has gained recognition as a YCP leader. There are also allegations that after joining the YCP, Gangi Reddy has been involved in settlement of land disputes. He has also extended support to several YCP candidates during elections. The police say that there are many allegations against him in Railway Koduru.
A big fight broke out near Lakshmi Theater in Railway Kodur on Sunday evening. The theater management complained to the police that Gangi Reddy’s followers had intervened in the Lakshmi theater space dispute.
Railway Kodur police registered a case and detained YCP leader Gangi Reddy on Monday and interrogated him. After investigation by the police, later they allowed him to go.
However, Annamayya District SP Vidyasagar in Madanapalle after coming to know that Gangi Reddy was detained, became furious about his immediate release. He has reportedly instructed Railway Kodur police to immediately take him into custody.
Then, soon after Gangi Reddy was reportedly detained again by the police. Annamayya District SP Vidyasagar is aware of the details of previous cases registered against Gangi Reddy and his notorious activities as an international red sandalwood smuggler. Now, police are likely to look into old cases against him, which were pushed into cold storage by the YCP regime.
