Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, who assumed office as Union Civil Aviation minister on Thursday, hinted at reducing airfares, which he said pose a challenge for the common man. He said that the government’s goal is to make air travel accessible to everyone, and this can only be achieved if it becomes more affordable.

The 36-year-old leader and the youngest person in the Modi cabinet acknowledged the trend of ever-surging flight ticket prices. Speaking to reporters, he shared his personal experience as a passenger and said the government was committed to addressing the issue. He said that his primary focus will be on making air travel more accessible and comfortable for the common man.

“Since the time I have been announced as Civil Aviation Minister. Wherever I go, people have been mentioning that the prices have somehow increased over the last few years, especially after Covid. I need a thorough understanding of the issue, so, I am going to sit with the stakeholders,” he added.

He asserted that passengers will be at the core of our work. To achieve these goals, Ram Mohan Naidu said he plans to create a 100-day action plan, which will eventually lead to a long-term vision for the sector aligned with the “Vikashit Bharat” plan, marking 100 years of India’s independence.

“We are developing a 100-day plan to address immediate challenges, and from there, we will transition to a long-term vision—the ‘Vikashit Bharat’ plan for the next 100 years of independence,” he said, before delving into details.

Key initiatives would include taking the Udaan Scheme forward by connecting more tier 2 and 3 cities, promoting the Digi Yatra facility nationwide, and converting all airports into 100 per cent environmentally friendly facilities, the minister stated.

Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, TDP’s three-time MP and son of former union minister Kinjarapu Yerram Naidu, on Sunday took oath as a Cabinet minister in the Narendra Modi 3.0 government at the Centre.
