Tamil Cinema’s biggest blockbuster to date, Ponniyan Selvan’s part two is all set to hit the screens in April and the makers have not started their promotions yet. A look at the pre-release buzz on the PS-2 is declaring the attitude of this movie’s team regarding its Telugu version.
Generally, the two Telugu states are considered as the second home for Tamil films as their movies collected their second best compared to other released versions. There is a number of instances where the Tamil version bombed at the box office and their telugu versions gave thumping profits to the distributors and producers. Almost all the top-tier Tamil heroes have decent markets in Telugu. Despite all these facts, the maker Mani Ratnam didn’t promote PS-1 and it resulted in below-par collections at the ticket window of the two Telugu States. The movie grossed 500 crores worldwide but almost all its dubbed versions tanked miserably and now the makers have decided not to promote the sequel PS-2 as well in Telugu.
Trade experts predict that the sequel would not even fetch the posters’ expenses with this attitude of makers. Actually, when the PS-1 became a hit only in Tamil, the over-enthusiastic Tamil movie lovers dared to declare Baahuali was nothing in front of it. Keeping such negatively already, PS-2 makers are speculated to be doing the fundamental mistake of not promoting the movie keeping a galaxy of the star cast like Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, etc in their quiver
