In a sensational move, the Vishakapatnam City Police busted over Rs. 1 Crore which was suspected as the hawala cash. It was dumped in a washing machine near NAD junction and the Police caught the money and seized it. According to the reports, the currency was being transported in a washing machine with an auto rickshaw carrying it.
This activity came to light after the Airport Police Station officials conducted regular vehicular checks at the NAD junction. During these checks, the officials uncovered the illegal activity after an auto-rickshaw was found carrying a washing machine and uncovered the bundles of cash. The Police confiscated 30 mobile phones from the persons transporting the cash. The Police registered cases under the CrPC sections 41 and 102 against the people for failing to produce accounts for the suspected hawala cash. The Police are yet to find out the source of this cash. The airport officials submitted the case to the court.
