The AP cabinet recently expressed frustration over offensive social media posts by YSRCP leaders and supporters, which allegedly target key government leaders, their female family members, and children. Ministers condemned the police for not taking action against such defamatory content, stating that officials were failing to address these character attacks.
Chief Minister Chandrababu, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, and other cabinet members voiced concerns, noting that certain police officials, including SPs and DSPs, appeared indifferent to ministerial directives on the matter. The Chief Minister remarked, “Tolerance should not be mistaken for weakness. We need to act firmly and restore order within the police force.”
During the cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister highlighted YSRCP members’ misuse of social media to attack active leaders, affecting their morale. Home Minister Anitha was also reportedly a target of fake posts, which have increasingly become a nuisance. Pawan Kalyan, arriving shortly afterward, shared his anguish over posts targeting his daughters, which he described as causing his family significant emotional distress.
Ministers further criticized the police’s slow response to recent incidents involving harassment of women and young girls on social media, expressing disappointment over the lack of immediate action.
Pawan Kalyan stated, “The police system is displaying extreme indifference. In the previous administration, officers disregarded the law, yet now they ignore requests for democratic, lawful conduct.” He also raised concerns about alleged corruption within the police force, highlighting how some officers, who supported YSRCP figures in the past, still hold key positions. Minister Nadendla Manohar pointed to a police officer who allegedly conducted a harsh baton charge against Chandrababu’s supporters during his recent imprisonment, noting that this officer now occupies a prominent post.
The cabinet stressed that taking action on these incidents is essential for restoring public trust and ensuring the integrity of the police system.
