Naga Chaitanya missed a golden opportunity

Naga Chaitanya missed a golden opportunity. His latest film Custody, which hit the screens last Friday, failed to take advantage of the solo release and ended the first weekend on a disastrous note. With hardly any competition at the box office, Custody could have collected strong numbers had it secured decent word of mouth and positive reviews. But, the poor talk spoiled the party for Naga Chaitanya.

Custody couldn’t collect a double-digit share in the first weekend. While the domestic numbers are dismal, the fate at the overseas box office is no different. The film collected a total gross of 11 Crores worldwide by the end of three days and is likely to be termed as a double disaster as it will incur close to 20 Crores loss for its buyers. The film was sold for upwards of 25 Crores. Custody is the second consecutive flop for Naga Chaitanya. His previous film Thank You also ended without any trace at the box office.

Venkat Prabhu’s wafer-thin storyline and incoherent screenplay failed to keep the moviegoers invested in this cop drama. Though Naga Chaitanya delivered an effective performance as an underdog police constable, the rudderless script acted as an undoing aspect.
