The new Malayalam action film Marco has generated a great box office presence since its recent release, selling extremely well not only in Kerala but also in Telugu and Hindi. Nevertheless, its extreme violence has led to a lot of controversy among fans and critics as well.
While Marco has received much acclaim for technical brilliance and sheer gripping action, a considerable section of audiences has condemned the film for extreme brutality. The way in which director Haneef Adeni depicts raw and intense violence has elicited mixed opinions; some praise the film for its realistic action while others find it quite disturbing.
After its OTT success, Marco was to debut on television. Reports, however, suggest that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has prohibited its telecast, citing the issue of excessive violence depicted in the movie. The board feels that such intense scenes of action are not fit to be shown on the small screen, hence its TV premiere has been canceled.
With the ban on television screening by the CBFC, speculation is mounting that Marco might also be pulled down from streaming services soon. Though there has not been any formal word on its digital release, talk of it being pulled out is gathering pace. Fans are waiting with bated breath to know if the movie will still be available on OTT or not.
