Actor R. Madhavan, known for his iconic romantic roles across Indian cinema, has announced that he will no longer take up romantic films. The announcement comes in the wake of the release of his latest film Aap Jaisa Koi, a romantic comedy co-starring Fatima Sana Shaikh, which premiered on Netflix on July 11. The film features Madhavan, aged 55, in romantic sequences with a younger actress — a move that sparked conversations online.
Speaking about the decision, Madhavan said, “When I started Aap Jaisa Koi, I believed I could still act in romantic films. That’s why I accepted the script even at this age. But now, I feel it’s time to choose roles that suit my age. This might be my last romantic film.” Produced by Karan Johar, Aap Jaisa Koi follows the story of a 30-year-old woman who falls in love with a 40-year-old man. Madhavan, who has recently taken on more versatile roles — including a negative character in Shaitaan — continues to remain relevant across languages. His songs from earlier hits like Sakhi still trend on social media, underlining his enduring popularity.
