The President of AP Congress, YS Sharmila, accused the BJP of seeking illicit gains through electoral bonds, defying the Supreme Court’s directive on Thursday. Despite the Court’s ruling, AP Congress leaders staged protests against the Center’s inaction regarding electoral bonds. Sharmila, along with JD Seelam, Pallam Raju, Gidugu Rudraraju, Sunkara Padmasree, and Naraharisetty Narasimha Rao, demonstrated in front of SBI, brandishing placards condemning “SBI in Modi’s eyes.”
Addressing the gathering, Sharmila questioned the integrity of SBI under Modi’s leadership, questioning if it truly serves the people’s interests. She challenged all regional parties to divulge the details of their electoral bonds if they were transparent. “The Supreme Court has mandated the disclosure of electoral bond allocations to specific companies. While it’s legal for companies to donate to political parties, it’s illegal for the Centre to conceal these details,” she remarked.
Sharmila criticized the government’s intimidation tactics involving agencies like the ED, CBI, and income tax, alleging Modi’s exploitation of public sector enterprises. She demanded full disclosure of electoral bond details, asserting that revealing SBI’s records would expose parties led by Modi, Jagan, KCR, and Chandrababu. “Even if Congress’s details are disclosed, we have nothing to hide,” she declared, commending those who filed the PIL. Sharmila hailed the verdict as a testament to democracy’s resilience.
