YS Sharmila, the president of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), actively engaged in the election campaign held at Payakaraopeta in the Anakapalle district. Addressing the gathering, she emphasized that if the state had been granted special category status, it would have facilitated job opportunities for the youth. Criticizing state leaders for their perceived reluctance to confront Modi, she questioned their readiness to address issues such as the potential closure of the sugar industry.
Sharmila further questioned the actions of the current administration, stating, “Since assuming power, has Jagan initiated any efforts towards securing special category status? Has progress been made in establishing the capital? Why support leaders who fail to deliver on crucial promises like building a capital? When farmers face injustice, where is the Chief Minister’s response? Kumbhakarna slept for only six months. Did you sleep through five years, waking up only during elections? It’s time to be vigilant. Why resort to borrowing? The promise of Mega DSC was made, yet only DSC was delivered. If you don’t address the issue of alcohol consumption, you shouldn’t expect votes. Now, the government itself is involved in liquor sales, resulting in tragic consequences for many.”
