In the recent elections, had the YSRCP won, Visakhapatnam was set to become the capital with Jagan Mohan Reddy governing from the Rushikonda Palace. However, with the YSRCP’s significant defeat, these plans fell through. In this context, TDP MLA and former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, along with media representatives, entered the Rushikonda Palace today, revealing previously unknown details about the luxurious construction. Ganta and the media were astonished at the opulent interior arrangements, which were unveiled for the first time.
After inspecting the Rushikonda Palace, Ganta Srinivasa Rao held a press conference where he alleged that Jagan had secretly built the palace at a massive expense of Rs. 500 crore, violating norms. He claimed the building complex, constructed on 61 acres, was reminiscent of a royal palace, with facilities not intended for use as a hotel. Ganta criticized the demolition of green resorts on Rushikonda, which generated an annual income of up to Rs. 8 crore, to make way for the palace. He accused the authorities of misleading even the courts by initially labeling the project as a star hotel, then a CM camp office, and later a tourism project.
Ganta revealed that despite the initial claim of building a star hotel with a budget of Rs. 91 crore, the project saw Rs. 95 crore spent on leveling the land and another Rs. 21 crore on beautification. He noted that twenty-foot barricades were erected to keep the construction activities hidden and that prominent leaders like Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan were not allowed to inspect the site. Ganta sarcastically remarked that despite the huge expenditure, Jagan couldn’t set foot in the building, suggesting divine intervention prevented Jagan from using the palace. Ganta concluded by highlighting that the people of Visakhapatnam rejected the YSRCP, signaling against making Visakhapatnam the capital, and clarified that CM Chandrababu Naidu would decide how to utilize the grand building.
