Hyderabad: The Telangana Civil Supplies Department has earmarked Rs. Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy revealed that the government is facing a loss of Rs 56,000 crore, attributing this financial setback to errors made by previous administrations. The minister conveyed these observations during a post-review meeting held in Hyderabad to discuss his department. Steps are underway to ensure the provision of high-quality rice to the underprivileged, he stated. The financial state of the civil supplies department is causing concern.
Approximately 12 percent of consumers reported not utilizing their ration cards, with some engaging in the inappropriate use of rationed rice. The minister indicated that a decision on new ration card applications will be made shortly. He pointed out that while the Centre contributes 5 kg of the six kg of rice distributed through ration shops, the state needs to enhance the quality of the remaining one kg. The focus is on delivering rice that is fit for consumption to the beneficiaries.
