In a significant political realignment in Chittoor district, Dr. Sudheer, the Municipal Chairman of Kuppam has quit the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), thus leaving behind the responsibilities of the municipal chairman as well as councilor there. He handed over a resignation letter to the Municipal Commissioner before the move to TDP.
It was welcomed with a ceremony at Amaravati where Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu draped him in a yellow shawl. Dr. Sudheer, in his speech said that he had complete confidence that the total development of Kuppam could happen only under Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership that prompted him to resign from all his posts.
Chandrababu Naidu has implemented a policy under which people joining the party from other parties are expected to resign their current posts before joining TDP. Dr. Sudheer adhered to the order by vacating his YSRCP and municipal posts before officially joining TDP.
There had been rumors about the possible joining of Dr. Sudheer to TDP for several months, and now that it has come as news, his resignation just recently and subsequent joining to TDP have generated enough debate on the possibility of a by-election to fill in his vacant positions.
In Kuppam municipality, there is a visible change in politics; out of the total 25 wards, the ruling party YSRCP enjoys domination over 19 while the opposing party TDP can vouch for six. It reveals the changed trend from when Dr. Sudheer left YSRCP a few days back and therefore, this kind of election outcome post 2024 Assembly elections marks its implications to be keenly observed with a microscope by the constituents as well as political observers.
