Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has accused the Congress of betraying Telangana farmers by making false promises for electoral gains. He criticized the Congress government’s handling of agricultural policies and stated that the farming community will never forgive the party. KTR was addressing a press conference in Hyderabad on Sunday.
KTR alleged that former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) would be remembered as a “Raithubandhu”, while the current Congress-led government under Revanth Reddy would be seen as a “Ravanasura” (demon) for its anti-farmer policies.
“The Congress ridiculed the Raithubandhu scheme when ₹10,000 was given to farmers, calling it charity. Now, what is their government doing? Rahul Gandhi promised to stand by Telangana people during tough times. Where is he now when Telangana is facing a crisis?” KTR questioned.
He also took a dig at Revanth Reddy, pointing out contradictions in his statements. “While in the opposition, Revanth Reddy said Telangana was the richest state in the country. Now, after coming to power, he claims the state is in debt. The issue is not the state’s financial health, but their mental state,” KTR remarked.
Slamming the Congress’ Raithu Bharosa promise, KTR said, “Revanth Reddy assured farmers ₹15,000 annually under Raithu Bharosa. He claimed it was Sonia Gandhi’s guarantee. When farmers didn’t believe him, he brought Rahul Gandhi to Warangal to make the promise. Rahul called it a guarantee, not just a declaration. But where is that guarantee now?”
KTR accused Revanth Reddy of damaging Telangana’s financial stability with schemes like Hydra and Moosi. “If the state’s financial situation is really bad, why would investors or financial institutions come forward? The Congress is misleading people,” he said.
KTR called on BRS cadres to hold statewide protests on Monday in solidarity with farmers, urging them to stand against the Congress government’s policies.
