Telangana MLC and daughter of former Chief Minister KCR, Kavitha Kalvakuntla was summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation to attend before the agency for inquiry on this 26th in connection with her alleged role in the Delhi liquor scam which was unearthed in 2022. The probe agencies found grave irregularities in the liquor policy formulated by the Delhi government. Many politicians and businesspersons have been linked to the case.
Amid rumours that Kavitha might be arrested as the CBI named her as an accused in the case, reliable reports are emerging that she will skip the inquiry in anticipation of a positive outcome in the forthcoming hearing in the Supreme Court regarding this case. Kavitha is likely to send an email to the CBI seeking an exemption from attending this inquiry.
It is a known fact that Kavitha approached the Supreme Court in September last year with a plea against a summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate. She got a brief respite as the apex court ordered the ED to not summon her until it heard the plea. Former union minister and advocate Kapil Sibal is representing Kavitha in this case.
The fresh hearing of Kavitha’s plea is going to happen on February 28th. In her plea, Kavitha raised several objections over the agency’s approach in questioning her. She has argued that the ED’s summons is an intimidatory tactic. She alleged she had been compelled to produce her mobile phone and was questioned after sunset the previous time. She said her personal details had also been outed. Her petition said there was no case against the legislator
