A biopic on the life of former President and “Missile Man of India” APJ Abdul Kalam, titled Kalam, is set to be made with Dhanush in the lead role and Om Raut directing. The project was officially announced at the Cannes Film Festival this summer, generating significant buzz among cinema enthusiasts. In a recent interview, Raut expressed that he could not have found a better actor than Dhanush for the role and shared his excitement about collaborating with him. He also highlighted that Kalam’s writings had a profound impact on his own life, shaping his vision for the film.
Om Raut noted that creating biopics presents unique challenges compared to other cinematic ventures, given the need to stay true to real-life events while engaging the audience. Filming for Kalam is expected to begin soon, with the director eager to bring the story of the late scientist and leader to the big screen. Raut’s own career began with the biopic Lokmanya: Ek Yugpurush, based on the life of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, and he subsequently directed Taanaji and Adipurush.
Dhanush, who recently appeared in Kuber and is currently acting in his self-directed film Idli Kadai, scheduled for an October release, will now portray the iconic figure of APJ Abdul Kalam. Fans are eagerly anticipating the project, which promises to highlight the life, achievements, and inspirational journey of one of India’s most revered leaders.
